The French Colonial Historical Society (FCHS) promotes scholarship and interest in the study of all aspects of the history of French colonialism, the overseas French territories, and the multifaceted legacies of French imperialism. The Society provides its members with various avenues, including newsletters, annual meetings, this website, and a refereed journal French Colonial History, to pursue the study of French colonialism, its influences, and its consequences.

FCHS annually awards the Heggoy and Boucher Book Prizes and an Article Prize for outstanding publications on French colonial history. The Society confers the Eccles Prize to the best paper presented by a graduate student at its annual conference.
